When I found out I was expecting my son, I was pretty confident that I knew what motherhood would look like to me. After all, I had read several parenting guides and listened to podcasts on what to expect. I absolutely believed that all of those things had prepared me to raise a child of my own.
Boy was it a rude awakening for me, bringing my son home for the first time and being so clueless. Motherhood wasn’t what I was anticipating and I wasn’t quite sure how to feel about that. I was captivated by the immense love I felt for my son, however I hadn’t completely realized how every little aspect of life would be transformed.
Four months into this wonderful and ever-changing journey, I can appreciate the challenging moments because they have crafted me into the mother I am today. There are three lessons I’ve learned and that have made a significant impact on my life. I hope they resonate with other new mamas as well!
🌟Lesson #1 – I will never really have parenting completely figured out. It doesn’t matter if I’ve read every book in the world or if I listened to every motherhood podcast possible, my son will something that is completely different from what I’ve learned. And that’s ok. it makes the journey that much more fun!
🌟Lesson #2 – Soak in all of the details of these moments. Time truly goes by faster than you can even imagine. Make sure you always have a camera handy.
🌟Lesson #3 – You’re stronger than you think. There are days when motherhood gets extremely rough and I feel like I’ve failed my son. On those days I choose to reflect on the promise that I can do all things through christ that strengthens me.
