In 2019, when I first found out I was pregnant with my son, I knew that my professional life would change forever. While I would still grow in my career as a project manager, the days of running non-stop would soon be over. And to be honest, I was ok with that lol. But a new set of challenges arose, as I had to figure out how to best balance being a career woman and a mom. If you’re still reading this, then I assume you’re in the same position. So, welcome to the club friend! I’m going to provide you with 5 tips for working moms, which are aimed to make working mom life much easier!
Make a schedule and stick to it
Working moms often have to balance a lot of different tasks and responsibilities. To make sure you are able to get everything done, try to create a schedule and stick to it. This can help you stay organized, prioritize tasks, and get everything done. One of my favorite ways to keep my schedule organized, is with a planner.
Take breaks
Breaks are important for any type of work, but especially for working moms. Make sure you take time for yourself throughout the day or week to do something that makes you feel relaxed and recharged. For me a break is, strategically blocking off 12pm-1pm each day to spend however I want to. This involves nap time planning for my son, which is a whole different conversation in itself lol. It also involves setting boundaries at work. I work from home, so the boundary of not allowing people to just fill up my calendar with meetings is super important to me.
Don’t be afraid to delegate
As a working mom, you may feel like you have to do it all. But you don’t have to! Don’t be afraid to delegate tasks to other family members or even to professionals. This can help you free up time for yourself and help you manage your workload. Now, I have to be honest, delegation has always been and continues to be a struggle for me. I’m used to being “superwoman” and doing everything myself. But in operating this way, I’m slowly running myself ragged. I want to encourage you to outsource honey! Get somebody else to do it! Whether it’s a laundry service, cleaning service or a meal planning service, taking at least one of these off of your plate will immediately prove its ROI (return on investment).
Utilize technology
Technology can be a great tool for working moms. Having worked in the tech field as a project manager for nearly 10 years, I can’t advocate for this enough. And let’s be clear, I’m not just talking about Google calendar or Zoom. Check out a few gadgets below that will make this easier for you mama.
Connect with other moms
Working moms often have to face a lot of challenges on their own, but it doesn’t have to be this way. Reach out to other moms and see if you can connect with them. This can be a great way to get support, advice, and motivation. Now I know this can be easier said than done, so let’s start off with an easy connection point…..social media. Connecting with other moms through Facebook groups or other social media platforms is a great way to ease into relationship building.
I hope that these 5 tips for working moms has been super helpful to you! Until next time…..you’ve got this mama!
