Should I have a children’s museum birthday party at my local children’s museum? If this is a question you’ve been pondering on, the answer is……a thousand times YES!
This year my son turned two and I was determined to throw him a party that was fun, memorable and cost effective.
During my search for a potential venue, I came across the Children’s Museum of Richmond, which if you weren’t aware is located in Richmond, Virginia.
I remember visiting the museum as a young child but never considered it for birthday parties. But after seeing what they had to offer, I WAS SOLD!
The museum itself had so many fun exhibits for the children to create and play, most of which were replicas of local businesses in the Richmond, Virginia area. This was a huge plus because I didn’t have to come up with any games or activities for the party guests.
The Children’s Museum Birthday Party Package
Another highlight was the party package. Every children’s museum may be different, but the package at the Children’s Museum of Richmond was a base $250 for non-members and $225 for museum members.
- To join the museum, they offer several types of memberships to select from and at different price points.
The birthday package included the following:
- Free museum admission for up to 20 total guests (adults and children combined, along with the birthday child)
- There was a $9 per adult & per child under 1 charge for additional guests after 20
- Party tables set up in a private party room just off the Museum’s main lobby
- Tablecloths at no additional cost
- FREE carousel ride for your guests! (Downtown Richmond location only)
The museum literally had everything ready for us when we arrived. All we had to do was set up any additional decorations that we may have wanted there and provide the food.
While we’re on the topic of food, I think it’s important to note that while food is allowed, items that require a crockpot, hot plate or any food warmer with an open flame are not permitted in the museum. Additionally, the museum does not provide utensils, plates, or napkins.
We opted to pre-order pizzas and have them delivered to the museum and of course had cake and ice cream available for dessert.
The Day of the Party
On the day of the party we were greeted by the AMAZING Zoey! She was our day of party coordinator and gave us a run down of how the event would flow. We were given 15 minutes prior to the start of the party time to set up and an additional 15 minutes after to break down everything.
The day was perfect and my son and his guests had a ball! So again, if you’re wondering about having your child’s birthday party at your local children’s museum……let this be your sign to 100% DO IT!
Birthday Party Theme
My son LOVES Peppa Pig, so there was really no question when it came to choosing the theme of his party. That said I had to make sure that our attire and decorations matched accordingly!
Peppa Pig Shirts
These matching family Peppa Pig shirts were such a hit! And they arrived within 7 days from the original purchase date!

Peppa Pig Decorations
This Peppa Pig plates, cups, napkins and tablecloth set was perfect for the party!

Also, the Peppa & George Pig latex balloons, as well as the Peppa & George Pig foil balloons added a nice touch.

Do you like to plan big, over-the-top parties? Or do you like to keep things a bit more low key?

This is so helpful, thank you! Did you choose the downtown or Midlo location?
Hi Jessica! I’m so glad this was helpful for you. We chose the Downtown location. It was PERFECT!
